25sec. - Berlin Poster

The idea for 25sec.-Toronto emerged after our earlier work 25sec.-Berlin
(2003) was exhibited at the 2004 Toronto International Art Fair as part of
the Berlin Constructions booth, curated by Rhonda Corvese.

Rhonda Corvese commissioned and curated our second 25sec.project, to
research and contextualize the present and future art situation in Toronto.

In collaboration with the curator we invited a cross-section of local arts
and cultural mediators, to give a 25 second statement on the following
question: "What are your professional goals and thoughts in relation to
Toronto and the art world in general?"

All participants came to our 25sec.-studio by appointment to make their
25 second statement about their goal(s) in front of our two simultaneously
running cameras. For the production unit in Toronto our temporary
25sec.-studio was based at the Drake Hotel, during which time we were
artists-in-residence - DRAKE A.i.R June 1 - 30, 2006.

In Berlin we realized the postproduction unit of 25sec.-Toronto and returned
to Toronto for the premiere presentation at Prefix ICA - Institute of
Contemporary Art in Toronto, June 21 - July 28, 2007.

For the exhibition 25sec.-Toronto at Prefix ICA we conceived a site-specific
dual-video installation. The projections of the altering 25sec.-portraits
were spacially shifting between the opposing walls, to provide a dynamic
situation of experiencing each of the single portraits and various
perspectives of members of Toronto's arts community. Furthermore, we were
presenting the previous 25sec.-Berlin on a monitor display during the
exhibition at Prefix ICA.

Many thanks to Rhonda Corvese, independent curator, for initiating and
commissioning this project and for her generous support and enthusiasm in
facilitating 25sec.-Toronto.

25sec.-Toronto would not be possible without the collaborative and financial
support of Prefix ICA, the Drake Hotel, the Goethe-Institut Toronto, and the
Ontario College of Art and Design.
